Britney Spears? A judge?

OK, I'll admit it... I used to be a big Britney Spears fan back in the day (when I was between the ages of 12 and 14). It was after I saw her in concert at the now Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, N.J. that my being a fan of hers began to dwindle.

Why? Because she lip-synced the entire concert.

Not only was going to her concert a back-up plan my mother had come up with when my younger sister and I found out that we'd be missing the N'SYNC concert due to our summer vacation, the fact that she didn't even sing a single made the whole thing a major bummer for me.

Yes, it was kinda cool seeing her live. Yes, she's a pretty awesome dancer and entertainer. But she was made famous for her songs and she can't even sing well live.

Now I'm finding out that Miss Spears is going to be a judge on the next season of the "X Factor." Really? "X Factor" is a singing competition... how can they see her as a legitimate judge when she probably isn't even close to the same singing level of those that are chosen for the competition?

What were you thinking, Simon Cowell?

If this isn't talent, then I don't know what is

This is Noah, an 18-year-old that has spent the last few months rearranging LMFAO's "Sexy And I Know It." This morning, NBC's Today Show named his video of the cover the trending video of the day.

You may not be a fan of the original version of the song, but I can promise you that after watching Noah's video you are sure to be a big fan of his rendition.

The Front Bottoms

Yesterday I found out The Front Bottoms are playing at Union Transfer in Philadelphia on June 27.
Today I found out that I get to interview them as a preview for the paper.

I can't quite remember how I found out about the New Jersey natives - which is usually the case these days since I get music thrown at me from a variety of web-based sources (speaking of which, download Spotify if you don't already have it) - but I've been listening to them constantly ever since. They have this quirky, energetic sound that leaves me tapping my feet under my desk and listening to their first full-length, self-titled release over and over again.

So, besides wanting to give everyone a head's up that there will be a feature written by yours truly sometime next month, I also wanted to give everyone the opportunity to listen to them before then.

High school flashback

First I heard the USA 7's Collegiate Rugby Championship is coming to PPL Park in Chester the first weekend in June, then I found out that one of former favorite bands, Yellowcard, will be appearing at the event as well.

I played rugby my junior and senior year of high school and was given the opportunity to play in a high school level 7's Rugby tournament the second year. That day was probably one of the most exciting in my short rugby career, and I've wanted to attend a tournament ever since (for those of you that don't know much about the sport, the 7's matches are much faster and a total blast to play in).

I was also a huge fan of Yellowcard in my high school days. I got to seem them live at the Electric Factory in Philadephia my senior year (courtesy of my father winning me tickets from the no longer existing Y100 - was one of the BEST concerts ever), and listened to them constantly before practice or a Sunday match.

While I haven't listened to them much lately, the news of this awesome sporting event with Yellowcard headlining a concert has thrown me right back into them. It also has me sending my father a text immediately to talk buying tickets. And whether you're a rugby fan or not, I suggest you consider attending the event as well - at least you'll have the opportunity to see Yellowcard live, too.
